Development of integrated approach for development of wind energy of industrial scale, considering all complexities of Uzbekistan’s natural conditions, which will lead to certain reduction of pollution volumes with diversification of the energy sources of the country, i.e. by increasing share of renewable energy sources. The growth of the renewable energy share in the generation mix will play an important role in saving primary hydrocarbon resources and ensuring the country energy security in longer term.

Description of actual services provided in the assignment:

  1. Develop an information-analytical system of the Uzbekistan Wind Power Potential, including creation of a Wind Atlas and to establish a system of permanent measurement and assessment of wind power potential all over the country;
  2. Identify two demonstration sites and carry out a detailed meteorological study to clarify the wind power potential of these areas, taking into account the technically viable potential, environmental and social risks;
  3. Transfer the knowledge and assist in establishing local expertise in wind power development;
  4. Assess the local industrial capability and capacity to support wind power development, including manufacturing, organizations, and infrastructure capability for installation, operation and maintenance of wind power projects;
  5. Propose amendments into legislation and institutional framework in order to improve conditions for wind power development in Uzbekistan;

Develop a bankable pre-feasibility study taking into account local requirements reflected in the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers #110 from June 7, 2007.
